By "clicking" on the ABBA picture, a range of colours can be seen - I'm selling this particular one because I have three that are similar

Looking for all the world like an old style alarm clock with large bell gongs on the outside and a chrome plated carry handle across the back.

The Bobo is typical of a number of the more unusual plastic “Retro” styles of telephone that truly makes a statement. It has recently found more appeal amongst collectors, not necessarily for its’ looks but more for the rarity.

It would have been a shape that could look quite ugly to some but appealing to others and consequently appealed only to a narrower buyers market.

Recently the Bobo is more difficult to obtain and becoming more expensive

Telecom Decorators from 1982

In 1982, Telecom Australia (Telstra) had already introduced their “Premium” range of telephones as an alternative to the standard rental telephone service. These telephones had additional features and were a sale only item.

The range was comprised of seven different telephones, namely

1. Minette Leather

2. Minette Onyx

3. Minette Porcelain

4. Regale Onyx

5. Regale Rosewood

6. Diplomat Beechwood

7. Heritage Hand Painted Craquelle

Complete set (& Black) of 1st version 800 type

This complete set, restored to a stunning, original condition.

All original colour matched cords

and dial “outside numbers”

The pictures above, show a hard to get complete set including Black, of the first of the "800" series coloured plastic phones; the first time that ordinary Australian customers had a choice of coloured telephones.

In 1963 these first ones had notable characteristics –

1. The numbers were moulded into the plastic ring around the dial face

2. The handset and line cords were colour matched to the phone. After a short time, the Australian Post Office (PMG) redesigned the phone without the injection moulded numbers and also then used a single standard (brown) colour for the line cord - to reduce costs.

This is an excellent set and it has the dial numbered cases and all of the correct coloured line cords. I have spent a considerable amount of time sanding and polishing any scratches etc from the individual phones.

Priced at A$635 including postage in Australia for the set  - the price only reflects the time spent in their complete restoration. Buyers may see similar phones at a lower price, but cheaper phones will not be nearly as attractive as this set.

A collector of Australian phones will not be disappointed.
